Dick Cheney would not be alive if it were not for Federally Funded Healthcare. He has had 4 heart attacks, one while holding his current office of Vice President. Just in the last 7 years, he has had nine problems/operations, which may have cost us taxpayers over one million dollars. These include, in chronological order: 2000-Heart attack, 2000-Coronary Stent placed, 2000-Abnormal Heart Function, 2001-Unstable Angina, 2001-Coronary Angioplasty, 2001-Cardiac Defibrillator Implanted, 2005-Popliteal Artery Aneurism Repair, 2006-Congestive Heart Failure, and 2007-Venus Thrombosis.
These are only Cardiovascular problems, see here for more

How selfish and hypo-critical do you have to be to refuse the general population free healthcare, when it has most likely saved your life? How can you live with yourself, knowing that you could have saved thousands, possibly millions of lives, but elected to spend money on a war so that you can take lives? I just simply do not understand these things. More on this later.

Hello, I agree it is typical of the people at the top, one rule for them and another for everyone else.
I reside in the UK and it is the same here, the politicians tell us that this is best for the country and then rpoceed to do the oposite, I’m with you one rule for all.

Hi, I am with you, I reside in the UK and they are just the same here, one rule for them and another for everyone else, it is time they applied the rules to everyone, not just a chosen few.

The whole of the US government has fully funded healthcare - why not the people? It is simple, the US people are indoctrinated to think that something like this would mean they became commies! It is stupid to think that, thinks like this needs to be pushed forward by those who want universal healthcare in the US, but you don’t see it much - Edwards, Obama and Clinton should attack this like a Wolf on a Bison!

Despite the apparent hypocrisies of political leadership, the real issue here is this: What is the government’s job?

Some people see the government’s job is to take care of us cradle to grave. In that case a government healthcare system makes sense.

The problem with that view is that it ignores the intent of the founders of our country in keeping the government small and out of our business, and it also sets the state up to be our master and us it’s wards. The founding fathers knew of the tyranny that the state can bring, and framed the constitution in such a way as to limit the government over us. (I wish the politicians today would follow the constitution….)

I personally do not want the government to have more control over me, I want less. And giving some mindless bureaucrats the control over my family’s health care- no thank you.
When the government is asked to do more and more and more, it inevitably takes more control for itself and takes freedom from the people.

Should we do something about the millions of Americans living without health insurance? Yes, absolutely. But asking the state to take care of us comes with a lot of hidden costs, and frankly I am uncomfortable with those costs.

Well, I think it is important to have alternatives, like we have in the education system now. You should be able to choose which one you want.
